The Martinsville Police Department in Martinsville, Virginia is hosting a Guitar Hero III tournament at Liberty Fair Mall on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The tournament is being held to benefit The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. “The Torch Run is already the largest grass roots fundraiser for Special Olympics and we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to raise money,” said Sergeant Marshall Farley of the Martinsville Police Department.
“We came up with the idea for this tournament after attending a Special Olympics fundraising seminar last December. To our knowledge, this is the first time a Guitar Hero tournament has been held to benefit Special Olympics of Virginia. We’re excited about this event and we’re hoping for a good turnout,” said Farley.
The event will be held in a vacant store space next to Waldenbooks at Liberty Fair Mall in Martinsville. On-site registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. and competition will begin at noon. Competition is limited to the first 64 registrants, ages 12 and over. There is a $10.00 entry fee. Full rules are available at the Martinsville Police Department.
In addition to prizes for the game competitors, there will be prizes awarded for best “Legend of Rock” costume. You do not need to be registered to compete in the tournament in order to compete for best costume. Costume judging will take place between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
